Cultural theorists separate words with capital letters from those without because the presence or lack of a capital letter changes the meaning of the word. For example, when cultural theorist uses the word "woman", "woman" simply means female human. However, "Woman" refers to what it means to be a woman as defined by the dominant culture. Woman (with a capital "w") is characterized by domesticity, emotion, sexiness, etc.
